Established in 2009 by Emily and Frederik Rissom our studio has built its reputation on clear thinking, detailed knowledge and our enthusiasm for creating both enjoyable and useful designs. We work closely with clients to understand their needs and goals and overcome challenges by working creatively as a studio. Through careful problem analysis we develop simple elegant solutions and translate these into well-crafted designs for lasting buildings and the spaces between them.

Our services
R2 STUDIO works across a variety of sectors ranging from refurbishments to new build and from private domestic to public, educational and commercial projects.
We provide the full range of architectural services including:

Our team
Frederik Rissom, Architect Dipl. Ing. RIBA
Frederik founded R2 STUDIO in 2009 with the aim to provide bespoke design services and set up collaborations with inspiring clients and stakeholders. He is an experienced architect who has led high-profile projects winning national design awards in the USA and UK.
With German and Danish family heritage, Frederik grew up in France and trained as an architect in Germany and the UK.
Frederik is particularly passionate about the environmental impact of buildings and continues to promote good use of daylight and high thermal performance as part of his work and university teaching. He is the studio's driving force for well-detailed, considered and buildable solutions.
Emily Rissom, Architect M.Arch RIBA
Emily leads the practice with Frederik. She is an experienced architect and interior designer and trained in the UK and the USA. Emily has led many high-profile projects and brings her strong focus of aesthetics and functionality to the team. She has an eye for space and colour and enjoys developing the clients ideas into inclusive and engaging environments.
Anke Edwardes, Architect Dipl. Ing. ARB
Anke joined R2 STUDIO in 2014 and since then has lead numerous projects from inception to completion. She delights in pulling all the strands of the design process together to form a cohesive and functional scheme.
After training as an architect in Berlin with a specialism in building conservation and creative re-use Anke worked in Zurich on a variety of innovative conservation projects in the housing and commercial sector.
Matt Ludbrook, Architect M.Arch ARB
Matt joined the practice in 2017 following his studies at Kingston University and 3 years working in Australia. Since then, he has lead a range of projects at all stages using his interest in both the wider concepts and the finer elements of design to create useful and enjoyable architecture. He has a particular enthusiasm towards the detailing of projects to add personality and unity to the design. Matt completed his Professional Practice in Architecture (RIBA part III) course for his final architectural qualification while working with R2.
Anna Mason, DIPARCH
Anna joined R2 Studio in 2022, after completing her Part 2 diploma in London and working for several years on a variety of projects including residential, commercial, and public sector schemes. Since joining the team she has been running a large extension and refurbishment project in Herne Hill, as well as progressing designs from concept stage to detailed drawings. She has a particular interest in interiors and the use of sustainable materials. She is currently working towards her RIBA Part III qualification at Westminster University.
Finley Hartless, B.Arch
Finley joined the team in 2022 after receiving a bachelor’s degree with first class honours and has already garnered recognition for his work. Finley was nominated for the prestigious RIBA bronze medal award for his thesis project on a puppet factory in Berlin, demonstrating an innovative approach to designing spaces that promote production, learning and empowerment. In his spare time Finley enjoys playing music and exploring the city.
Anna Norman, operations manager
Anna joined R2 Studio team in 2021 to assist in the day to day management of the studio.She has more than 7 years operations management experience including HR and finance administration, also systems and process management.
Milo, Dipl. B.ark
Milo completed a successful internship at R2, charged with entertainment, disruption and document shredding. He is an Irish Terrier, not all that interested in sitting nicely in front of the green backdrop...
