Starting on site
Works have started on this deep refurbishment and extension project in a conservation area on the Dulwich Estate, in Herne Hill.
The project creates a house that the owners can live in for the next 50 years. As a consequence, the house is significantly upgraded to a low-energy home, not only insulating and refurbishing the envelope but also making it air-tight, fitting renewables and alongside, create a cohesive and flexible family home.

Kennington House featured on Dezeen
Kennington House featured in Dezeen today in a piece about statement skylights:
An oversized skylight at the top of the stair brings daylight deep down into a narrow Victorian house. The colour palette celebrates the light by going from red to orange to yellow as you walk up to the top.

One Tree House approved!
Thrilled to have secured conservation area approval for this new low-energy house in Southwark!
The house is located adjacent to the One Tree nature reserve and replaces a tired small 1960s house which had been severely damaged beyond repair by subsidence. The new home adds a storey to better reflect the scale of the listed adjacent terraces. Due to the steep slope on the site the main living space is located at first floor, connecting to the rear garden. A roof garden at the top will give views through the trees onto central London.

Conservation Approval received
We are please to have received the go-ahead from Southwark's conservation team and from the Dulwich Estate for this remodeling of a large Victorian house in Herne Hill. More to follow soon.

Häuser Awards 2021
Ash House has been awarded a special mention (Auszeichnung) as one of the best sustainable home projects of the year. The project will be part of a Prestel/ Random House book on sustainable architecture which will appear this spring.

Shortlisted for Don't Move, Improve! Award
We are delighted that two of our projects, Ash House and Offset House, have been shortlisted as part of the 25 best London house extension and renovation projects in this year's New London Architecture Don't Move, Improve! Awards. The exhibition of all projects will open on 12th February at the Building Centre at 26 Store Street. Free entry.

West Norwood Industrial Area collaboration
R2 STUDIO have been appointed in collaboration with creative design agency Strudel to rebrand the Key Industrial and Business Area in West Norwood The aim of the project is to deliver a number of site-specific interventions to help make the area a more attractive place to work, as part of Station To Station's Business Improvement District work.
Ash House at Open House 2019
Over 400 visitors came to see Ash House at this year's Open House weekend - a great opportunity to see buildings in London that are normally not visible to the public. Thank you all for coming!

Court Lane house granted Dulwich Estate and Conservation Area approval
Permission was given by the Dulwich Estate Scheme of Management and Southwark Council for a two-storey side extension to a 1920s house within the Dulwich Village conservation area. The extension moves the main bedrooms to the rear of the house from where the family has expansive views directly over Dulwich Park. A sympathetic loft extension is added within the hipped roof.

Long House shortlisted for Don't Move - Improve! 2019 Award
From a long list of 100 of the best London home extension and improvement projects, Long House was selected for the shortlist for this year's DMI Awards.
NUMBER 22 project selected for New London Architecture exhibition
The project will be featured as part of the Don't Move - Improve! exhibition at the Building Centre at Store Street from January 22nd.
Dulwich House granted Dulwich Estate approval
After obtaining planning and conservation area approval earlier this year the project has now passed the final conservation approval and is projected to start on site in early 2019

We are delighted to have obtained Planning approval for this extension project to a narrow Victorian terrace house in Brixton. The design combines spaces filled with indirect and direct daylight facing a compact courtyard garden.

Steel frame completed for Oxford Riverside House

After extensive groundworks that were necessary due to the riverside location the steelwork was installed within 1 week, sketching the outline of the building in one go.

Planning granted for Crystal Palace House

Planing permission has been granted for R2's 2-storey extension design for a 1970s house. The proposals complement the existing building with an identical volume off-set from the original, clad in contrasting black tiles.

Frederik presented R2's work at New London Architecture as part of the DMI open day, highlighting the importance of transitional spaces in home design such as entrances, corridors and stairs. These spaces, often undervalued, form the core of a successful building and can contribute greatly to the overall cohesion of spaces.

Planning approval granted for Twisted House, Camberwell

R2 STUDIO's Twisted House scheme extends a Victorian terrace on the edge of the Camberwell Grove conservation area. The extension acts as a light scoop along the north-facing back of the house which has been carefully designed around garden voids.
Planning approval granted for Ultra Sports Clinic, City of London

R2 STUDIO's Change of Use application for a new sports clinic in the city was granted approval. The new clinic comprises five comfortable treatment rooms, a social space and a rehabilitation gym. See what Ultra Sports Clinic do here.
